Maybe someday I'll upload my drawings, but most of my time here is spent liking cat .gifs.

I just love making custom wearables on Subeta so much. Figured I might as well post the working size versions of two of my backdrops.

You are currently my favourite CW artist. It’s a pleasure whenever I see one of your items in the queue - your subtle use of lighting and colour just astounds me every time. BEAUTIFUL!

Wow for realsies echoing Gemma! It’s so great seeing CW artists take advantage of full backgrounds, especially when we know first hand just how difficult it can be. I recall commenting on how absolutely GORGEOUS the first background was when it was in queue.

Hahaha thirded; I’m really impressed by your beautiful artwork and how you pretty much managed to pull off Subeta style right off the bat. I’m always like “yay :D” when I see your items in the queue. You should post some of your clothing too!

It’s possible that some people just might be a little more irritated than others when they see characters that are their skin tone getting lightened up constantly. Tends to grate on some people’s nerves.

While…

I actually hadn’t heard any commotion about Korra until now. D:

As a minority, I do find whitewashing hurtful, but I’m more frustrated at the general pattern than I am at any one particular artist. I don’t think I would confront any particular artist over this because you know, I can’t really tell what went through his/her head in making a piece; in most cases it really just is lighting choices, or the artist’s style, or sometimes even lack of ability to depict a particular ethnicity well! I’ve seen maybe one artist actually come out and say “yeah, I drew x character as a white person because I don’t like black people” in all my time browsing the internet, so I don’t think that’s representative of all artists accused of whitewashing.

I worry when people cry “racist” so often because it devalues the fight against real racists, and racism is definitely something that’s worth getting angry about! At the same time… I don’t know. It’s not productive to come down on any one particular artist who may or may not be racist, but it’s just really frustrating when the whitewashing is so prevalent and there’s no outlet for expression.

Omg bby, I didn’t mean to imply that whitewashing isn’t really fucking horrible, because I do think it is omg hgfhdgkd!! I just think that like many many other words, it has become overused and people use it for everything they find slightly insulting (much like your example for “racist”). Imo, to be told you’re “whitewashing” for x reason is just as insulting for the person who isn’t even trying to do so as it is when someone targeted by whitewashing, because in both, the accusing side is making assumptions about the other side? I don’t know, maybe it’s just my really ignorant POV :c

Weh I just don’t like when people jump the gun immediately. :/

Oh don’t worry I totally agree! I think it would be much more productive for someone who is offended to open the dialogue in a way that’s less inflammatory than yelling “RACIST!” or “YOU’RE WHITEWASHING!” which makes a lot of assumptions! And I think that artists should also be open to talking about it too, since it can be such a sensitive issue.

Really I just want everyone to be excited about Korra together. ;-; ATLA and Korra are awesome in so many ways, one of which is that the world is so diverse and the writers treat the cultures so respectfully! I wish people in the fandom would be equally um… respectful of each other. Okay too many feels, I’m going to end on that note. XD

nightingales: MLP rant, Rainbow style

I should create another blog for this, but fuq it & skip this if you don’t want to read it. You really don’t have to read about my very serious feelings about ponies ok

Yes, I agree with you! Rainbow Dash is my least favourite pony but I don’t hate her … I CAN…

May, I don’t think I can argue with the things you said, because they are exactly what I thought in the first place. (except for the fact that I like RD and that those two episodes just made me shrug, because the rest of the main cast will probably get the same treatment? We’re only eight episodes in, after all!)

Also I wasn’t talking specifically about you in that post, because you already made your arguments pretty clear, but I’m still just gritting my teeth at all the unjustified hate going around for RD. It’s exactly as if everyone just forgot how amazing her great moments were, and how good of a friend she can be.

I was really wary of S2 when it was first announced. Then I was pleasantly surprised that even if Lauren Faust had stepped down from Executive Producer, the quality of the content would remain the same. However, after May the Best Pet Win! and The Mysterious Mare Do Well, I’m starting to have doubts about the main cast getting badly portrayed. I mean, Lesson Zero? I honestly was just “WOW NO”, because Twilight just deserved a smack in the face for going dowright insane about writing her report. I understand what they aimed for (comicly insane character when stressed), but it hit me as annoying (as much as ONE episode of RD’s).

Then again, I’m saying “annoyed”, but it’s not that bad. Would we have gotten two episodes in a row, I’m fairly certain people would’ve gotten on Twilight’s case as well.

SHRUG I knew I wouldn’t be as pleased with S2 as I was with S1, but this is kinda part of every fandom. I fell in love with the original look and feel each of the main characters had, but I have this feeling that now they’ll just keep stretching it as wide as they can.

IT’S OKAY I’M AN ADULT TOO MAY LET US HAVE SERIOUS TALKS ABOUT PONIES. In fact everypony should join in nod and puts fists on waist

I definitely don’t hate RD or any of the ponies (how could anyone hate a pony?!), but she’s been frustrating me this season. I’ve actually… thought about this (lol), and I think that part of the problem is that all of the characters have become more cartoony and exaggerated this season (Twilight going from being organized, studious and meticulous to having OCD, for example) and it just happens that the characteristic they choose to emphasize for RD is especially unbearable in large doses. I agree that Twilight would be getting more haters if she had continued on that way for more than one episode; I was actually cringing a little expecting hate because I love Twilight and I didn’t want to see that happen.

While every pony has flaws, RD’s flaw- her boastful “I’m awesome and better than everyone else!” schtick- is such a big part of her character that I feel the writers have been playing it up instead of having her learn and grow from it. For example, you can tone down Twilight’s neurosis and she’s still Twilight; she’s bookish, resourceful, talented and a leader, and those are the characteristics that are emphasized. Applejack can be really stubborn and rough around the edges at times, but that’s not her one big THING. She’s also strong, hardworking, loyal and honest, and that more than balances out her “flaws.” (I say “flaws” because I don’t think her flaws are so bad, but maybe that’s because I’m also stubborn. XD) I feel like Dash has been getting the short end of the stick because her good traits are getting pushed aside this season. I thought she was a good model of loyalty in the first season- she stuck by Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie when they were being taunted and she didn’t think twice about abandoning her sonic rainboom act when Rarity was in trouble- but sadly that’s not what’s being emphasized now that the characters have gotten more cartoony. :(

Another problem I see with the season in general is that too many of the episodes have been character-centric. I think the show works a lot better when it deals with the dynamic between friends with different personalities and interests, how said friends work through conflicts, and how they deal with broader issues like prejudice, jealousy, not fitting in, etc. For example, Fall Weather Friends gave Dash and Applejack an equal chance to shine and dealt more with friendly rivalry and being a good sport than it did any single pony’s faults. Similarly, Look Before You Sleep paid equal attention to Applejack and Rarity and their eventual ability to compromise and put differences aside, and Griffon the Brush Off had Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash dealing with different issues and growing from them. Whenever the spotlight is focused on a single pony I tend to get a little annoyed with that pony, but that might just be me!

Lastly, I think part of the hate stems from the fact that the other characters’ flaws are a little more relatable or forgivable. I’d wager that more people can relate to Fluttershy’s timidity and lack of assertiveness than they can Dash’s boastfulness. That doesn’t make RD’s flaw worse; just less relatable. Twilight’s flaw also seems more forgivable to me because it doesn’t seem like something she can easily control (again, that might just be me because I can really relate with the anxiety and OCD). Again, that doesn’t necessarily mean RD’s flaws shouldn’t be forgiven, but I think it might explain why she’s getting more hate right now despite Twilight having an admittedly annoying episode herself.

THAT SAID, I realize the season is still young and I’m still enjoying the episodes and loving this show despite everything I’ve said! I just hope the characters are toned down a little as the season goes on, as I thought they were all lovely and well-rounded in the first season and I’d love for them to continue being the good, well-rounded, three-dimensional characters I fell in love with in season one.

Omg YOU’RE ALL POOPS I REALLY WANT TO GO TO BED AND READ BEFORE … I SLEEP … BUT NOW I’M STUCK HAVING A DISCUSSION WITH YOU ok no jk ilu all

drawsomething replied to your post: Hi please teach me how to skirts and dresses and like shoes and stuff. In return I will do your hair and talk…

Okay, I’m looking through all these text posts and nodding in agreement to all of them so I’m just going to pick this one to reblog and blab on for a bit about everything!

I’m exactly the same way about dresses vs. jeans! I own two pairs of jeans, no pants and then a billion dresses and skirts. Dresses are just so much more flattering on me and they appeal to my laziness. As in… you put on a dress and you instantly have a cute, pretty, complete outfit without having to do any work.

I also wanted to share some links for the anon who asked about proportions (and anyone else who struggles with that)! Try this link (also here for visuals). I also have shorter legs and it’s really just about using your clothing to create the illusion of a more proportionate body! I tend to do this in a few ways:

1. I pick skirts and dresses that end slightly above my knee and have waistlines that fall at or slightly above my natural waist. This corrects my proportions by visually shortening my torso while lengthening my legs. The skirt doesn’t have to be skankily short or hiked up to ridiculous hipster heights; just do the calculations and find what works to tweak your proportions. You can also use shorts!

2. Another way to visually balance out your proportions is to actually add length to your legs using heels. I don’t often wear jeans but when I do, pairing them with heels instead of flats makes a huge difference. (If you’re not comfortable with heels, you can also pick tops with waists that nip in a little higher than your natural waist to wear with your jeans + flats.)

3. Create long lines with your legs and avoid cutting them off. Ankle booties, mid-calf boots, capris, midi-length skirts and skirts that fall below the knee tend to cut my legs off in an unflattering way, making me look stumpy. It’s not impossible to work with them but they can be tricky!

Okay I feel kind of dumb posting all of this because I’m still in the process of figuring things out myself (have proportions down finally but I am still learning how to accessorize and not buy every blue/twee/hipster tea party dress I come across), but hopefully that was helpful to someone.

Lastly, I TOTALLY agree with you on disliking the stupid girl-on-girl hate and the dumb notion that there’s only one correct way to be a woman; especially the idea that you’re somehow hurting the feminist movement by spending time on your appearance, dressing femininely or having traditionally feminine interests.

God tl;dr and this post is all over the place but this is all so relevant to my interests and ~*feelings*~ haha!

omg GLEE IS THE WORST AHHH DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT JUST SPIRALLED INTO A VORTEX OF CRAP

IT IS… SERIOUSLY… JUST… ALL I CAN LIKEN IT IS TO A BAD ACID TRIP, ONE MINUTE YOU’RE ENJOYING…

JKdkdjfj reblogging because I had the same experience with the same exact shows?! I eased out of watching House about two seasons ago after the novelty of watching a show set in the exact town where I grew up in wore off. My roommates and I started watching Gossip Girl kind of “ironically” (lol) but I sort of hate myself for following through after the first season. It’s not even remotely justifiable now, not even as a guilty pleasure. XD

And GLEE… I went back and watched the first few episodes (which I honestly thought were pretty charming with the cute acapella renditions of classical pieces and all) and the change in tone is so apparent to me now. I liked how they used briefer songs to portray what the characters were feeling and spent the rest of the time on development, whereas now they’ve eschewed all of that in favor of cramming as many full-length moneymaking songs as they can fit in each episode. And I know the characters were always supposed to be caricatures in some sense (blah blah playing with stereotypes etc. etc.), but now it’s just like… WHAT ARE THEY DOING. Oh yeah, and let’s just pick something to moralize about every episode instead of advancing a coherent plot.

Okay this is coming across more hostilely than I intended it to given that I’m mostly just disappointed and will probably continue watching it anyway, like a sucker. XD Idk, I have the same problem with not being able to stop watching a show if I’ve already gotten into it and liked it at any point, even if that point was in the distant past. I have no problem vetoing a show and never touching it again if I hate episode one, but once I’ve made it past the first few episodes it’s like it’s too late and I need to see the train wreck through to the end.

I THINK YOU SHOULD DRAW A VAMPIRE BAT. No, I think you should do a self portrait! I love it seeing all the little details/big features that people include when drawing them self that they think really represents them. It doesn't have to be realistic or anything. (DO IT SURREALIST! FIVE EYES!)

Ahh you’re probably right that I should practice my human art and a self-portrait is a really good idea. Thank you!

Idk if the vampire bat is a serious suggestion but I would totally be up for that! XD
